For maximum impact and recognition, Recycle Your Electricals has worked with both the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) and the Department of Business, Energy and Industry Strategy (BEIS) to develop an editable toolkit for retailers to use to support in store take-back of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

From January 2021, retailers selling over £100,000 of electrical and electronic equipment annually and with at least one physical store, will be required to take-back consumers’ old electricals in store for recycling on a like for like basis when they purchase a new electrical product. To help ensure consistency across all communications relating to retailer take-back, the communications toolkit contains key editable assets for retailers to adapt with their own branding.

To comply with the WEEE regulations, the toolkit contains a strut card for the till point, in store posters, point of sale and website content to explain more about the WEEE regulations and advise customers of their recycling options. Optional items in the toolkit include a window decal, till prompt, packaging options, online point of sale and key points for staff training.

Louise Grantham, chief executive of REPIC comments: “Clear, consistent communication about in store take back will be key to engaging with customers. The free toolkit provides practical support for a range of retailers and we’d encourage our producer members who are also regarded as retailers and required to provide takeback to use this resource.”

To maintain consistency across channels, destinations and improve visibility of in store take-back, the look and feel of the campaign is in keeping with the national WEEE campaign delivered by Material Focus. The palette of striking pink has been paired with monochrome text to deliver clear but impactful messages.

The pack is available to all retailers based in the UK and should be requested directly from Material Focus by emailing
