Local residents and users of Chelmsley Wood, Solihull have benefited from a cleaner Meriden Park as community-spirited volunteers carried out a litter picking event to coincide with Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean.
Organised by REPIC, the largest household waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) producer compliance scheme in the UK, whose members are many of the UK’s leading electrical product brands, and working with Love Solihull, the WEEE scheme also recruited local volunteers from one of its collection partners to lend a helping hand on Wednesday 30th March 2022.
REPIC, collects, treats and responsibly recycles waste electricals on behalf of manufacturers of household electrical products, which helps to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions associated with producing new raw materials.
REPIC works in partnership with Solihull Council to collect and manage waste electricals on its behalf, working alongside The Appliance Recycling Group to reuse as many appliances as possible. Employees from the Appliance Recycling Group joined both the Love Solihull and REPIC team members in walking through the park to collect 39 bags of litter.
Love Solihull, an environmental initiative co-ordinated by Solihull Council that supports members in making a real difference in their local community, kindly provided the equipment for the team to use on the day.
Back for its seventh year, the 2022 Great British Spring Clean takes place 25th March to 10th April and alongside today’s achievement, REPIC has also pledged that all its employees across the UK will collect at least one bag of litter from their local communities.
Louise Grantham, Chief Executive at REPIC, who took part in the organised event in Solihull, said: “It’s great to be able to have the opportunity to do our bit for our local environment by helping to keep our parks clean.
She added: “In just a few hours, the team had gathered up a lot of litter. It does show that you don’t need much time to make a difference. By everybody working together to create a cleaner environment, we can build stronger, healthier communities and make a positive difference.”
